Experts discuss ways to make maths teaching interesting

A state-level workshop on “Exposition of Group Theory and Fluid Dynamics” concluded at DAV Public School today. Around 100 mathematicians and students participated in the two-day workshop to clear their doubts and receive information on how to make teaching of mathematics interesting.

VAT on petrol goes up 2 pc

The state government today increased the rate of VAT on petrol from existing 25 per cent to 27 per cent from tomorrow. It will make petrol dearer in the state.

As per a notification issued here, the government spokesperson stated the revised rates would be effective from October 18. All dealers have been asked to charge VAT accordingly from tomorrow, he added.

Legal awareness camp held in Kullu

A legal literacy camp was organised by the Sub-divisional Legal Services Committee at Laran Kelo village, 20 km from here, yesterday.

Praveen Chauhan, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kullu, who is also the Chairman of the committee, presided over the camp and detailed the provisions under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act and Domestic Violence Act.

Fans cheer India, Windies teams

The Indian and West Indies cricket teams arrived at Dharamsala this afternoon for the ODI between them scheduled for tomorrow.
The Indian team arrived 1st around 1:00 pm. The team, including captain MS Dhoni, was cheered by cricket fans at the Gaggal airport. The West Indies team arrived around 4:00 pm.

Two drug inspectors and an employee of the Baddi-based drug control administration were beaten up by Sobenmajra villagers today. They had gone to inspect a private clinic against which complaints of irregularities had been made to the Health Minister.

Mining kills two in Solan

Reckless mining along the Waknaghat-Mamlig Road killed two persons, while three others got injured around 10.30 am today. The mishap occurred when a JCB machine was extracting stones from a site along the Waknaghat-Mamlig Road, thereby leading to a sizeable portion of the hillock caving in and blocking the road.
